Thermochemistry - It's so COLD, it's HOT!

Today we played with Ammonium Nitrate and Calcium Chloride. We measured 25 grams of each and put them into beakers of 250 mL of water. We stirred and compared temperatures every five minutes. We found that the Ammonium Nitrate made the water colder and the Calcium Chloride made the water warmer. We also let them both come to room temperature.
We took balloons and filled them with Tonic Water and let them freeze in the freezer. We will peel off the balloons tomorrow and have glowing ice balls to enjoy!
We also tried to make frozen bubbles. Our bubble solution did not have enough glycerin to produce one huge bubble, but we did get many small ones. We used tonic water so that the bubbles would glow....
