Awards and Measures!

Ms. Downs and Ms. Demeter visited our room today to acknowledge the Headmaster Honor Roll and the Dean's List Scholars. We are all proud of their hard work and efforts this past quarter!

The scholars were busy today measuring with a yardstick our existing room and then my future abode. We basically measured wall lengths today and when we finish up surface area they will be figuring the surface area and the gallon requirements for paint to prepare the room for next year.

We also worked on nets again today in Math and will be building our 3D communities as we meander our way through our unit on volume and surface area. The class will be divided into two teams and will use all of their 3D shapes to build the communities of Maycomb, Alabama, and rural Mississippi. It will be intriguing to see the scholars' renditions of these two towns.

All scholars should be thinking about their Urban Legend project and starting to put together information for it. They are due on May 3rd and scholars have assignment sheets.

Research papers were handed in last Friday. Unfortunately they took over 12 hours to correct this past weekend. There are some small particulars that I am not concerned about, but the parts of the research paper that are vital have to be mastered before scholars head to seventh grade. Therefore, I am working on a particular part of the paper each day in class, and students will have that evening to fix that part of the paper. This evening they are all preparing their Works Cited pages and bringing in a copy of that tomorrow. Tomorrow we will look at formatting and proper MLA. Wednesday we will look at parenthetical citations and how they should appear. Thursday we will look at voice and transitions. Friday they will hand the paper in with the first copy stapled to the back. They are able to earn half of the points they missed the first time around. I think we will have a much better piece the second time around.

Tomorrow is our science test on microorganisms. Scholars spent some time on the website today reviewing diseases and their causes. We will continue to use the siber-text as we prepare for the NWEA (see links).
